I keep hearing ads by a car dealer which incorporate lyrics from a
Garbage song. I seem to recall seeing a video for this song years ago
(Shirley Manson flying around in a kind of little spaceship or fighter
jet and shooting, very much in the spirit of a video game) but have
never been able to discover the title. There is a repeating lyrical
hook "Baby I'm ready to roll" and the song seems to be a cover. But I
need to know the album and song-title (and, just in case I've got the
artist wrong, the artist).

That song you're thinking of is titled "Special", where Shirley is
shooting down the guys, (Butch, Duke, and Steve). Its off of the
Version 2.0 album

. . . but 'Special' doesn't contain the line 'Baby I'm ready to roll',
that sounds more like 'Ready to go' by Republica (an excellent track).
If you wait until July 16/17th, 'Absolute Garbage' (Their greatest
hits CD) will be released, containing the track 'Special'. A week
later the greatest hits DVD (containing the 'Special' video) will also
be released. If you want to check out the full track listing for both
the CD & DVD plus the lyrics to virtually every garbage track ever
released, go to;

Yes, the song turns out to be "Ready To Go" by Republica, but
specifically the U.S./rock mix, not the pop version. There is a
really neat psychedelic video for it which I don't recall seeing
before:

But the video I described in my original post is the Garbage song
"Special".

And, in the words of Donovan, "I'm just mad about Saffron"...

Well, there are one or two unpleasant and disturbing moments when she
bears a slight but disturbing resemblance to the late Freddie Mercury
<insert Homer Simpson shiver of repugnance here> but some of the time
she's pretty damned cute, especially about 50 seconds, and 1 minute 20
seconds, into the video referenced below. As fetching as she is in
the latter appearance, there is a mystery to be solved: how the hell
did that pageboy haircut manage to cover her eyes?

Incidentally, the particular URL given seems to be the best
combination of sound and video, of the several available via You
Tube. The link cited does tend (at least using my facilities) to
pause and stick irritatingly, but the solution to this seems to be to
let it play through once, without intervention; after which it seems
to be buffered properly and can be played from the beginning as much
as one likes, without problems. I've seen this perhaps two dozen
times this afternoon, and it's still entertaining. True, a bit of
vodka helps, but there's something to it, otherwise the vodka would
have nothing to work from...

Here's something odd and problematic: recently I went back to watch
this same youtube.com video some more, only to find that (unlike
before) it is now pixilated to the point of being unwatchable; the
video image has large, unfocused "chunks" in it which change in a way
that suggests that the software is trying to catch-up with the video
stream but unable to do so; as a result the video is poorly focused.
The video should be the same one I saw before, since it was uploaded
by the same source and contains the same "viewer comments" I saw
before (plus some more recent ones). In attempting to diagnose the
problem I watched some other videos on the same equipment and they
were clear (they didn't have this problem). I have also tried
watching the video using the computers at two different locations (two
different networks) and at both locations the new problem occurs; this
suggests that the problem is now inherent either to the video itself
or to my viewing experience independent of the viewing hardware and
software I use.

When I initially visited Google Groups to post a follow-up message
complaining about this new problem, I found two additional
irregularities: (1) a search for posts containing
"***@yahoo.com" which is organized by date shows nothing more
recent than January 8, 2007 even though I have posted a number of
messages to Usenet since then (obviously including the original
message in this thread), and this search result is at odds with the
results of identical searches conducted earlier, which did show more
recent posts by me in the results organized by date; (2) Upon
attempting to log in, I was sent to a page that asked me to enter the
same information again (username and password) instead of being logged
in. I did not re-enter the information. I tried numerous times,
making sure that I did not make any errors and that the caps-lock was
off, but couldn't log in; note also that I was not sent to a page
which said that the username or password was wrong, but merely to a
second login-page.

Condition (1) still persists after several days; condition (2) no
longer obtains since I am able to log in without being sent to a
second login-page.
